The Department of Liberal Studies is one of the six (6) departments under the Business School. The department now runs a 2-year Diploma in Mass Communication and Journalism.

The department services all the academic departments in the university with seven (7) main courses. These are courses: African Studies, Communication Skills, Logic and Critical Thinking, Economics, Law, Literature in English, French and English Language.

Among other things the Department aims at providing sound understanding of basic as well as advanced concepts in the courses we teach. The Department exposes students to the rationale underpinning language usage in order for them to handle both oral and written communication with intelligence and finesse. We deepen students’ understanding and awareness s of the world in order that they will be culturally sensitive, intellectually independent, analytical and creative to respond favourably to the vicissitudes of life. We help students to appreciate and gain pleasure from the beauty of the Arts and to   use these to create a sense of self-esteem that comes from personal accomplishments and challenges met with success.

The department can boast of highly competent and dedicated staff. Currently, we have Seventeen (17) Full-time teaching staff out of which are one Associate Professor, three (3) are Senior Lecturers and 13 Lecturers. The department can boast of one 1 efficient Junior Assistant Registrar. The department has been supported by twenty-two (22) part-time lecturers.
